1. New Runner Outcomes 

Overview: In anticipation of upcoming MLB rule changes and to enhance the accuracy of our product, we’ve introduced several additional Runner Outcomes for the 2024 season.

Benefit: By integrating these outcomes, we ensure higher quality and greater stability of the MLB API.

2. Expanded Broadcast Coverage Information

Overview: Our broadcast information is now aligned closely with our NBA and NHL API, enhancing consistency and usability.

Benefit: Access multiple broadcasts for a single game, featuring details such as network, broadcast type, channel, and locale. This enhancement enables you to provide customers with precise information on where to watch a game.

3. Two New Sabermetric Data Points

Overview: We’ve introduced two Sabermetric Data Points at a Seasonal Level: wRC (Weighted Runs Created) and wRC+ (Weighted Runs Created Plus).

Benefits: These data points enable you to craft a more distinctive and comprehensive narrative by quantifying a player’s overall offensive value in runs.

Sabermetric Definition:

• wRC (Weighted Runs Created): It’s a counting statistic that measures how many runs a player has created.

Equation:
(((wOBA – League wOBA/wOBA Scale) + (League R/PA)) * PA

Equation Key:
“wOBA” is a player’s Weighted On Base Average
“League wOBA” is the total Weighted On Base Average for the season
“wOBA Scale” is a constant calculated for each season
“League R/PA” is the average runs scored per plate appearance on the season
“PA” is a player’s total number of plate appearances

• wRC+ (Weighted Runs Created Plus): It’s a counting statistic that measures how many runs a player has created.

Equation:
wRC+ = (((wRAA/PA + League R/PA) + (League R/PA – Park Factor * League R/PA))/(AL or NL wRC/PA excluding pitchers))*100

Equation Key:
““wRAA” is a player’s Weighted Runs Above Average
“League R/PA” is League Runs per Plate Appearance
“Park Factor” adjusts the stat for locations of games
“AL or NL wRC/PA” excluding pitchers adjusts the stat for league conditions

4. Deeper Team Points

Overview: We’ve expanded our team information by introducing several new data points.

Benefit: These additional data points empower you to construct a comprehensive narrative about a team, encompassing its current status and historical performance.

Datapoints:

• Current data points: Owner, General Manager, President, Mascot, Nicknames, Sponsors, RGB primary and secondary colors, Fight Song and Minor League Affiliates
• Historical data points: Playoff Appearances, Division Titles, Conference Titles, Championships Won, Championship Seasons and Retired Numbers

5. Miscellaneous Additions and Fixes

Below is a list of other improvements made over the offseason:

• Added Season IDs into Game Endpoints
• Added Suffix and Full Name Data Points into Game Endpoints
• Added a new player status of “duplicate.”
• Added parent ID to games and series to better group recurring events across seasons, such as the World Series or the MLB All-Star Game
• Made several back-end changes to our data ingestion process to enhance the stability of our MLB API.
