Sportradar named the NHL’s Official Global Data Distributor
The National Hockey League (NHL) today announced a new multi-year agreement with Sportradar, the leading provider of sports data services globally, to be its exclusive third-party provider of real-time game data, beginning with the 2015-16 NHL® Season.
Sportradar will provide real-time play-by-play and game statistics via the League’s proprietary Hockey Information Tracking System (HITS) to media and technology companies worldwide. HITS provides critical in-game stats such as time on ice, face-offs won/lost, shots on goal, missed shots, shot types, plus/minus, face-off percentage and numerous time on ice subcategories.
“This partnership with Sportradar advances our commitment to statistics as a storytelling tool,” said Stephen McArdle, NHL Executive Vice President of Digital Media and Strategic Planning. “We recognize that innovative technology helps bring game statistics to life and showcases the extraordinary talent in the NHL.”
“The NHL’s rich content is a tremendous addition to the Sportradar portfolio. Not only will we provide the fastest NHL data directly from the rink, but our development team will use this data within a dynamic new suite of visual products and applications that will enhance the hockey experience for fans,” said Steve Byrd, Chief Commercial Officer at Sportradar US.
“NHL content is a true international asset,” added Ulrich Harmuth, Managing Director at Sportradar Global. “We will bring this comprehensive data to customers across the globe, including hockey relevant markets like Scandinavia, Russia and Eastern Europe.”
